Ard Bia at Nimmo’s

Ard Bia at Nimmo’s

The food and wine scene in Ireland has grown in leaps and bounds over the past couple of decades. Once known for a culture of overly-boiled vegetables and meats, Irish restaurants have garnered quite a bit of buzz for their creative fare made with local, seasonal ingredients, and inspired by the many cultural influences that have shaped the country. One restaurant in Galway that truly speaks to the city’s bohemian leanings, artistic cooking, and access to farms and fishermen, while maintaining some historical and cultural significance is Ard Bia at Nimmo’s, proud winners of many Bridgestone and other awards and…

Salted Caramel Cheesecake Pie

Salted Caramel Cheesecake Pie

I like to try to make something each Thanksgiving so that I can contribute to the meal. This year I decided to try out Joy the Baker’s (amazing blog by the way) Salted Caramel Cheesecake Pie after hearing about it from people on Twitter. It sounded amazing – and intimidating – to make but I figured, why not? I wanted to give it a try, and I must say…I’m glad I did! It was delicious (if I do say so myself) and everyone else seemed to like it as well. I was very proud of myself for not screwing it…

Happy Graduation!

Happy Graduation!

Good news! I am extending the Tapeña Wines giveaway until Monday! If you haven’t entered, you can do so here. http://traveleatlove.com/2011/11/celebrate-the-holidays-with-tapena-wines/ It’s our last day in Ireland. We head home tomorrow, and while I am sad to leave, I am looking forward to seeing my cats, sleeping in my own bed, and hopefully seeing some sun. The weather here has been absolutely abysmal, the worst I have ever seen it. Cold, blustery, raining, hailing, flooding, you name it. Since it is our last day, I have to give a shout out to my husband, the very reason for our trip…

Well, it’s being festive, and I’m sure this will get you in the mood.  If you’re around Boston this weekend, this is the place to be!  Have you ever strolled along Beacon Hill and soaked in all the decor on the doors, windows and lamp posts?  It’s a sight! Brown Bread Apple Stuffing

Brown Bread Apple Stuffing

Stuffing is easily one of my favorite parts of a holiday meal. I have loved all sorts of stuffings, from ones with sausage to cornbread stuffing with fresh corn. My favorite stuffings of all always include fruit for some reason. I love the tiny kick of sweet in a savory meal, and fruit like apples and apricots tend to pair so well with the other dishes. On Thanksgiving day, I did my dinner shopping in Ireland. Since it’s not a holiday there, people were working, and I had until 6:30 to pull off our holiday meal. Shopping during the work…

My Birthday in Wine Country

My Birthday in Wine Country

While my birthday was not the reason for the trip, I was thrilled to be able to celebrate my special day in such a beautiful part of the country! Nov 7, 2011 Woke up to the smell of bacon and French toast at our B&B in Healdsburg. Why can’t there be platters of fresh fruit waiting for me every morning??  (Brian I’m talking to you…;) Coffee, of course, and I really want these mugs!  Best part is that I saw them at Sur La Table a few days later!!  One thing I really wanted to do on our vacation was…

My Favorite Game Apps

When it comes to gaming in our house, I leave it to Mal. He plays enough video games for the both of us! Just kidding. He actually doesn’t play that much—just on the weekends for the most part. Anyway, I’ve recently started playing some games myself. Here are three game apps that I am currently obsessed with! iAssociate2 Have you guys heard of iAssociate2? Download it now! It’s a word association game and your goal is to guess words that are associated to the already given words. It’s a lot of fun, but I’m warning you right now that it’s…

Letters to Me

On the way to work the other day, I heard Brad Paisley’s Letter To Me and it gave me the idea for this blog post. You can see the lyrics here, or watch the music video. Basically, the song is a letter to his 17 year old self. I thought it might be fun to do a post with letters to myself at different ages. I hope you’ll join in and write a letter to your younger self in the comments or on your own blog. Dear 10 Year Old Self, Do not… I repeat do not EVER think it’s…

Ginger and Irish Cider Carrots

Ginger and Irish Cider Carrots

Before I get started on this simple, delicious, and somewhat healthy side dish (that is perfect alongside turkey for a holiday meal), let’s just look at my box of produce below. Two giant bushels of giant carrots, pulled from the dirt that day, six apples, a bunch of celery, a giant yellow onion, and a piece of ginger root, all purchased for 8 euros. If I could find quality, local, cheap veggies and fruits like this in Boston, I would be a much healthier person. I am positively jealous at how cheap much of the produce in Ireland is! I…

Celebrate the Holidays with Tapeña Wines

Celebrate the Holidays with Tapeña Wines

The holiday season is the perfect time for entertaining friends and family, both in elaborate, planned dinners and in instances where friends are in the neighborhood and just stop by. For us, it’s always important to have delicious, food-friendly wines around to open for such occasions, and with so many events happening, it’s also very helpful if these wines are a great value. Tapeña Wines fill this need perfectly. Tapeña—the wine with the little fork on the label—is a big blend of tradition, camaraderie and good taste. A fusion of the terms tapas, the American equivalent of bar hopping with…
