It’s really a funny story. Old Radio reps who sold radio in Boston over 15 years ago, come back together to take the online world by storm! Ok, maybe not by storm, but at least allow them to apply their passions to the web and share it with those who also have passion for sports, fitness, and all things Boston.
Our Mission
Provide Boston-area women with online media dedicated to their passion for the city, their sports, their healthy lifestyle and their familiy. Allow girls and women a place to write and share their thoughts on their passions and experiences with others. Give back to the community through Monthly events, donation drives and awareness of charitable giving opportunities.
You can find Boston Sports Woman just about anywhere in the social media space. From Facebook to Twitter, to Stumble Upon, Reddit, Linked-in, we’re there, and we’re there to share. Our bloggers are there too, so we hope you’ll tune into them on the web. BSW is a blog portal. We post blogs from bloggers in the Boston area who write about food, recipes, sports teams, fitness, wellness, mindfulness, yoga, and so much more!
Kathy’s Story
Kathy McConnell moved to Boston in the Winter of 1996 with her husband and two-week old baby. Looking to get back into the radio business, having sold radio in Upstate New York, McConnell was an account Executive at Eagle 93.7 FM. Looking over the table at the client-side, McConnell saw her future. In order to get there, McConnell made her way to the Agency side first. At Team Enterprises, Inc. McConnell oversaw the then three cable companies in the area, and mainly Cablevision and Time Warner Cable. As the merger of Media One and Time Warner came into fruition, McConnel sought additional clients in the cable space, signing on Fos Sports Net New England, Turner Networks, HBO and USA Networks.
Media One executives approached McConnell in the spring of 2000 and by July she was named Media Manager for the New England Region of Media One. One month later, Media One became ATT Broadband. McConnell oversaw an 18mm annual budget planning the media for the region. In 2003 Comcast purchased ATT Broadband, and continued to expand the Region. Eventually, the Regional Marketing became a Division and McConnell was then named Senior Manager of Marketing Communications for the North Central Division of Comcast.
After nearly ten years, McConnell left Comcast, but continues to assist various regions on marketing projects. “Going back to writing filled a hole for me that I had long forgotten I had a passion for. I searched the web for other bloggers and found that I was definately not alone. Bloggers are not virtual friends, they are team mates in the writing world. Mike and I had sold radio advertising fifteen years ago, and reconnected through a mutual friend. His wife and three kids all love and play sports, and so the bond formed. I decided to write about my life in the bleachers, as a parent experiences her kids sports involvement. Then, Bleacher Butts was born!”
McConnell was then approached by Mike Winn and asked if she would be interested in having his “woman’s site” carry her blog. But there seemed to be something missing for McConnell as she started writing, and going to various sites around the web for different needs she kept searching for one place that “I could go to that I felt could supply me with all that I had interests in around Boston. Mike and I sat down and determined that the site needed someone to lead it, to create it’s look and feel. I took him up on it, and we created BSW!”
Kathy McConnell lives in Reading, Massachusetts with her husband, Cary and their two children, Annie and Charlie. Passionate about her sports and watching her kids participation in sports keeps her writing, laughing and just having fun!
