A Daddy Diaper Bag You May Already Own

A Daddy Diaper Bag You May Already Own

I’ve been writing a lot about bags lately haven’t I? Earlier this week I wrote about what was in my non-diaper diaper bag…and months ago I wrote about how I don’t like diaper bags. Today, I’m writing again about another option for a diaper bag, that’s not technically a diaper bag, but for Daddy. My husband is a very hands-on father (thank god) and his car is usually stocked with the necessities for the girls…diapers (both sizes), wipes, snacks, extra blankets, etc. The only problem is all the stuff is just in the back of his SUV…not really organized in…

Bringing up my girls to love sports and not wear pink hats

Bringing up my girls to love sports and not wear pink hats

Meet Kelly, from Tiny Sophisticate.  I’m sure you see why I love her blog already! If you’re a girl, and you love or play sports, do you have to wear pink? The whole “pink hat” thing bothers me. If the hat is pink and donates to breast cancer, different story…but I am not a fan of sports hats and apparel that are made for girls and woman in pink. I’m a fan of Boston and New England teams because I grew up here. Last time I checked, the Patriots colors are blue, red and silver. Celtics colors are green and white….

Repurposing Baby Gear, Gadgets and Stuff

Repurposing Baby Gear, Gadgets and Stuff

After your newborn becomes a baby, and your baby becomes a toddler and your toddler becomes a big kid, and your big kid becomes a teenager, and then your teenager becomes an adult…what do you do with all the stuff? The stuff…you know…the stuff you need, think you need or just bought and never used during each stage. Well, as a mom to a two-year-old and a two-month-old, I’m still in the newborn/baby/toddler phase. But as I leave these stages, here are some ideas of what I can do with the baby stuff: Diaper wipes warmer – many people think…

An Open Letter to Moms at Mommy and Me Classes

An Open Letter to Moms at Mommy and Me Classes

An Open Letter to Moms at Mommy & Me Classes: Please stop your whining, complaining and gossiping. Stop. Just stop. I don’t care that your husband is an idiot. I don’t care that your neighbor’s kid has issues because his hand is always down his pants. I don’t care that your mother-in-law is a helicopter grandmother. I don’t care that you are having trouble losing your pregnancy weight (even though your kid is 3). Yes, I actually overheard all of these things. I don’t care. What I care about is spending an hour doing a fun activity with my daughter….

Food Trucks are the Best Thing for Parents Since Chicken Nuggets

Food Trucks are the Best Thing for Parents Since Chicken Nuggets

If you are a foodie, a wannabe foodie or just like to eat a lot, you may have noticed the rise in popularity of food trucks. No longer the “roach coaches” serving “street meat,” today’s food trucks are awesome and serve everything from grilled cheese to BBQ to cupcakes and more. Last Sunday, I took the family to the WZLX Monster Food Truck Festival at Shopper’s World in Framingham. It was an unusually warm 80+degree day in New England and it was a great excuse to 1) be outside, 2) shop and 3) eat. I think that is a trifecta…

Some of My Favorite Products

Some of My Favorite Products

I’m always looking for products to help make my life easier. Here are a few that I love and swear by: Command Brand Strips – I am terrible hanging things with nails and a hammer. Yes, I measure. Yes, I use a level…and it always comes out crooked, with many “test” holes in my wall. So often times, I shy away from hanging things because I know it will be a disaster….until I found these. I’m not scared anymore because I can’t really mess up (I’m sure there is a way…and I’m sure I’ll do it…will keep you posted). They…

Dressing like a Mom

Dressing like a Mom

What does “dressing like a Mom mean?” I feel like it used to mean high-waisted jeans, frumpy tops, old-school sweat pants, holiday sweaters and matchy-matchy accessories. No longer. With an onslaught of fashionista moms gracing the pages of magazines, and “normal” Moms having a wide variety of fashion inspiration to choose from, dressing like a Mom can be chic, glamorous and trendy. My Mom style icons include Gwen Stefani, Nicole Richie, Gweneth Paltrow, Selma Blair and Kate Beckinsale.        While I don’t think my style is exactly like any of my icons, I love each of their individual…

12 Fun Weekend Picks

12 Fun Weekend Picks

Hello friends! I hope you’re having a super week. I’m going off the grid for a few days so I thought I’d leave you with this weekend roundup a bit early. Enjoy! Also, a couple of fun media things. I’ve been meaning to share that a cute little picture of me, Laurel, and Violet is included in the October issue of Parents Magazine, along with a quote in an article on 10 healthy cities for families (Boston ranked #2!). And yesterday I was honored to learn that I was named to the Top 50 Twitter Moms of 2011 list at…

Happily Perplexus’d

Happily Perplexus’d

I admittedly tend to shy away from plastic toys, but we recently caved and bought the Perplexus Maze Game, which Laurel couldn’t stop talking about after learning about it from classmates. And I have to admit that this game is ridiculously fun. The 3D sphere comprises one long, convoluted maze track including three different entry points — so, for example, you don’t have to start at the beginning if you’ve already mastered section 1 of the maze. Following the maze requires careful rotation and keeping your eye on the ball. The maze manages to be challenging (I’m still stuck on…

Rabbits to the Rescue

Rabbits to the Rescue

I had a fantastic time experimenting more deeply (i.e., beyond the IKEA runs I’ve used the service for in the past) with TaskRabbit as the Boston spokeswoman for their Do More. Live More. Be More. campaign. I shared my mid-month recap a couple of weeks ago; below are my thoughts now that the campaign has come to a close. Also, read on for a discount code so you can give TaskRabbit a spin! + + + + + Here are the 6 general buckets I planned on working on at the beginning of the campaign: Purging. Well, I still haven’t…
